Maybe I should start a Hall of Shame

First the Mustang Sheesh - worst bodge job ever, now with a happy ending. A bodged Waltham 1883 Appleton Tracy, don't forget the Olma calendar with Glitter dial, and now this quality soldering job

Now, no claiming responsibility for THIS one Marrick - you confessed in the watchmaker's forum to having no heat source

Thankfully it was SOFT lead solder, so OK to remove - although time consuming.

Now to replace the missing fixed bar.

I described this sort of collecting as perverse in some other thread - sums me up in a nutshell.

It is a pre 1938 big 37-38mm diameter watch, MST 364 11.5''' movement (look at where the sub dial is, even for this largish WW movement), with a nice shadow numeral dial - quite worth my effort to save.

Oh yeah, this was the £3.70 win on ebay I mentioned earlier - so even as parts it was worth it. Always nice when a parts watch turns out worth saving, certainly better than the other way around

    *EDIT* one more photo

Cool looking watch Trim... when you are done with it will you be able to attach a band to it? I thought maybe the reason it was soldered is because the lugs were worn away. Ron

Hi Ron, under all that blobby solder, the original lugs were in good(ish) repairable condition. It will be no problem to hard solder in a replacement fixed bar. Nothing really wrong with the watch - other than a good example of terrible workmanship.

Well that is a good size - good luck with your soldering. And, BTW, the one of mine you mentioned with the bent lug stopped working shortly afterwards. Its in the queue!
