    Montine with France Ebauche movement

Got this recently from the bay for 99p. Working fine. It needed a new crystal and strap (not easy as its 19mm - I had to use a file on the strap). The face is marked 'French Ebauch'.

The movement has the France Ebauches symbol and 233-72-E.

This is the FE derivative of the Cupillard 233. Nice article here.

Nearest version online is the FE 233-70A:

    Like mine, no second hand.

You may notice the lump of cork that I have wedged in to keep the movement holder in place as it tended to vacate its little notch and the dial fell away inside the case. Works a treat.

The case looks stainless steel. But it isn't as these gouges from the previous bracelet reveal brass.

Montine seems to be an undocumented brand, but if anyone knows about it please share.

    Fe 233/72

The image below is from "French Watch Movements - their technical characteristics", April 1974

The details are given as 23.3mm in diameter and 4.16mm in height. It is listed as 233/72 and 233/72-21 at 18,000 and 21,600 beats per hour respectively. There is no listing of a 233/72-E in the above edition.

Hope this helps. Sorry I don't know about Montine.

    Cheers from the cellar

    Re: Fe 233/72

    Awesome.

There is a 21 mark as well - just to the right of the 233-72-E and not quite in line. So its probably the 21,600 version. I wore it all day yesterday and it is keeping very good time.

Thank you for posting the information. There isn't much about FE on the internet - at least in English. Other Montines I can find seem to have Swiss movements.

Re: Montine with France Ebauche movement

I have one of these a 25 J automatic, it cost around £3 off a flea market and kicked into life almost immediately, I just polished it and got a new cystal fitted , now it looks like an almost new watch and it gets plenty of comments...Montines seem to be easy to buy on Ebay and quite cheap though they are often nicely finished the dials appear to age well( if only Omegas of the same age did!) they also at least on the ones I have seen use decent movements.
Here's a before picture I will post an after one later if you want?
Just off to my local car boot to see whats there today...usually pretty good...fingers crossed!

    I can't see a picture.

There are quite a few on sale on UK ebay, but only 1 quartz example on US ebay at the moment. Perhaps they were a brand sold mainly in the UK?

Good luck with your treasure hunt!

Very smart. It did, indeed, need a new crystal. Glad you got a result.

I'm warming to Montine as a brand - very under appreciated.
