    Multicolor gold watch case situation

In 2004 wrote a little personal opinion report that was in Insync magazine, now Watch Journal where they so far do not do old pocketwatch stuff. I got started with mainly gold case watches 1978-80 because of some hobby trading with the gold inflation then. Saved quite a few from scrapping. Tended to keep the multicolors. My wife helpfully preferred I did. Shown here. Second click to read. 3 better images. Sizes 16, 6, 8. left to right.

Beautiful multicoloured cases! We are again seeing very high gold prices, I wonder how many have been lost already this time. Sadly ladies watch cases tend to go first because of limited interest among collectors. It's a shame.

I agree with Erik on the beauty and the likelihood of them being scrapped.
    Very attractive watches, indeed.

Not normally appreciated are quality differences in the case decorations. The 8 size shown is a really fine one. Most are made with soldered on previously prepared pieces they would use on watches in different patterns. The best one here has a handmade bunch of flowers nicely done as are the rest of the multiple pieces and the precision of the machined patterns.Has good 1884 mvnt. and no wear and evidence of service. One winding turn runs fine. 8 size big for hanging on a neck chain so unpopular and rare.
