    My Christmas present.

My Dad has just finished making this set of Watch Drawers for my Christmas present, and I am so pleased with them. Scratch built to my design, with 7 drawers - 6 x 16 for 96 wrist watches plus 1 x 15 for pocket watches.

Not quite finished as I still have to line it, and fit the knobs when they arrive - but I can't contain my excitement, hence this thread.

Trying out with a few watches.

That is my Opa/Grandfather's Junghans, bought sometime pre 1932 - most likely late 20s.

Actually here is a closeup of my Opa's watch... I am doing a COA for my Dad. It took me a while to convince him not to get the bow replaced.

Cool to see. I have been laying up a similar project but converting a shallow drawer in my antique dresser. Rather than laying flat though I think I am going to use wrist forms like a watch box does. I think that watches with bracelets will store better that way.

    Nice workmanship...Looks great.

Nice! What are you going to line it with - felt or foam?

Lol. 96 wrist watches, 15 pocket watches = 111. Unlikely as it sounds, I will try very hard to stay within this limit.

I prefer to wear leather straps over bracelets, so that is why I went exclusively flat. I think of all my watches only 2 or 3 have factory bracelets that obviously need to be kept, and as 2 of those are mesh, they fit fine. Seems most watches I buy come with manky old spieldal expansion bands, which go straight in the bin. Many old factory watch boxes were flat also.

I hope size this will be self limiting for me. My wife's response to seeing the 96 wrist watch spaces was unprintable.

I am thinking of green baize. I prefer not black, as that will be too dark. Not sure if I will just do the bottom or the sides as well.

It is a very nice present indeed, and what makes it extra special of course is that Dad took the time to make it. Certainly far better workmanship that I can manage myself - I hope when I'm 74 I can get near his standards.

I believe that there is a WIS corollary to the fisherman's axiom 'that no matter how big a tackle box you get it will soon be too small'.
