    (n00b) Hamilton Pocket Watch Identification/Info

Hey gang - total PW noob here. I love autos and particularly vintage watches (Elgin, Bulova, etc) usually, but fell in love with this Hamilton PW recently. Long story, but I'm going to get it from a family member at what I think to be a good price - and honestly if it's nothing special, the price is worth it to me just for the dial. Supposedly running well.

Having not seen the serial numbers yet, is there any way to rough date this or know anything else about it before I get my hands on it? Not sure if pics depict this but the hands are blued. I am completely new to PW's and am itching to learn more as I sit and wait. Incoming!

Those art deco style dials were used starting in the 20s and through the 30s if not later. I'm afraid you'll have to wait until you get it in hand and get the back off so we can see the movement.

    rybo...Hello!

These dials tend to show up on 12 size watches, and it's been my experience, that quite a few 12s Hamiltons are 17 Jewel Grade 910, or Grade 912. All Hamiltons were well-made, and this example will compare very favorably with one of their Railroad Grade 16s or 18s watches.

The hands on this watch match, and the dial looks Great. The case may well be 14KWGF ( white gold filled ), and should be signed Hamilton, possibly with a rather fancy dustcover.

With just a little luck--and a good Service!--this Hamilton should run to within several seconds / day.

    Enjoy! Michael.

Thank you both so much for the info. Still don't have it in hand, but did get a pic of the inside and found out more details for anyone interested. Spot on with the approximate date - seems like it is from 1927. Unfortunately no dust cover on this guy - must have been lost to time.
