Hello,I am trying to identify and find out where to take my Hamilton pocket watch for valuation. It seems everywhere around Cincinnati, OH requires it to be shipped, and cost $75 to $100. Any help that can be offered is appreciated.

Welcome to the Vintage forum. Valuating that watch will be very difficult and will have to take into account a load of factors. Once these factors are taken into account, the biggest marketplace of all - fleabay! - should be your best bet. Just watch what other similar (or even identical) watches go for and take an average to get your desired figure. The factors that need to be taken into account are (among others - this list is probably not exhaustive):

    1. Who is buying, who is selling? A private seller - into which category you fall - will never get as much as a professional or even a store that has to give some sort of warranty and has greater overheads

    2. State of the watch. Is it in any way damaged? If not, does it need service? No watch should be run if the last service is 10+ years ago - even if it appears to run, it will not run well (accuracy!) and you risk damage. A service will cost at least around 100$ and you need to deduct that from the price

    3. Watch brand (a Patek goes for more than an Omega which goes for more than your average no-name watch) which reflects the quality of the movement.

    4. Exact movement. Your average Zenith manual watch from the fifties only gets about 10% of the price of a Zenith Cal. 135 (very accurate movement made for chronometer competitions, only 11000 ever made - most movements are made in their millions!)

    5. Case material. Silver beats gold plating, gold beats silver and platinum beats the lot! Yours is only gold plated ("Guaranteed 25 years" shows that)

For more help, we would need to see more comprehensive pictures of the watch. Good luck!
