Need help with new Elgin from 1909

I just bought a vintage Elgin class 316 pocket watch off of eBay and I cannot find what the Champion case is made out of. It looks to be gold but does not have any hallmarks on the hunter style case. It only says:

    inside of the back
    CHAMPION
    2481279

    inside of the front
    CHAMPION
    2481279

and 279 on the outer ring, near the movement.

Any idea if it could be gold? It is intricately engraved and has no wear marks through the finish.

    Thanks,

    shane

Sorry, I haven't been able to find examples of Champion case marks in my texts either in gold filled or solid gold. So I just don't know. The only way to tell for sure is to get the case tested.

    Ray,

Thanks for checking for me. This is my first vintage watch and I was surprised to find no hallmark at all. I figured even if it was filled or plated it would state something. I will try to do some more research and find someone who can test it for me.

    Thanks again,

    shane
