    New Accutron Tuning Fork

I picked this up recently, in very good condition. The dial is almost pristine, and the movement is about +10 seconds/day. Not what was advertised when these movements came out, but the 1.55 volt batter makes it run a little fast. I tried an Accucel, but it wouldn't run the movement. It made the coil hum but that's about it.

I put on a thin crodocile band and an original tuning fork buckle. I've grown fond of these watches. The technology was made obsolete very quickly by the advent of quartz, but these are still amazing. The movement is a 219 caliber, which utilized a single tuning fork. Highly collectible in working order.

    Anyway, thanks

Nice watch. You can tune out about 5 seconds with the +/- rate adjusters positioned across from each other at the end of the coil on the right and the magnet on the left.

Careful not to touch the coil, use a tooth pic to move the adjusters. A professional watch man familiar with the accutron can actually adjust the over excitment of the tuning fork out without damaging the watch. This adjustment was done at the factory, initially for the 1.33 mercury batteries but was done later on for the 1.55 silver oxide batteries.

    Cheers, Geoff

Geoff - interesting you should say that - I had reviewed the service manual a few weeks ago, and done that adjustment on another watch with a 218 movement. This 219 has one coil, and the other side of the tuning fork is a balance only, but it also has the adjusters. I'm going to take the back off tonight and see if I can dial this one in to within a second a day.
