New acquisition: Levrette Chronograph 18K Gold

I was recently given this beauty from a friend and wanted to ask if anyone here can help me date it? I am not aware of a database for serial number lookups for Levrette watches, but the hinged back suggests it may be older than I thought. Sorry for the low quality pictures...not sure what happened. I will try to post better ones tomorrow.

A maximum of 300 on the tachy scale suggests a pretty old watch. Perhaps I have been fooled, but I'm going to guess 1930s.

Thank you...you just taught me something as I did not know the tachy scale could be an indicator of age! I was guessing 30's or older from the hinged back. Perhaps the movement will help narrow it down.

I can't place it exactly but it seems to be an early Reymond Freres (later: Valjoux) movement.....

I also tried to identify it as either an early Valjoux or Landeron, but didn't find an exact match yet.

Same here...it looks similar to several movements, but I could not find an exact match on Ranfft. At first I thought it might be a Landeron by the shape of the Wheel bridge, but now I think it looks like a Venus 175 (note the beveled base plate and loction of the column wheel...and Levrette used these in some of their chronos: https://grail-watch.com/2018/04/24/l...ssic-elegance/

Still I am not sure. If it is, then I think it would have had to be produced in the 1940’s.

I wish my friends were like yours! Ahah
That's a beautiful watch and the movement is kind of puzzle for me too... I thought about an early Valjoux aka Reymond Frčres as well but by checking this ebauhes chart, it seems not. Seems like it's no Landeron either, despite some similarities with the cal.13. Hopefully someone will point out what movement is that one, I'm pretty curious tbh.

Its perplexing! Incan find no markings under the balance wheel or anywhere along the edge of the movement. Not sure how I will identify this one. The layout and placement of the wheels etc is similar to movements by Venus, Landeron and Valjoux...but not an exact match as far as the shape of the bridge and other characteristics. I may just have to accept that it is a beautiful mystery...

Re: New acquisition: Levrette Chronograph 18K Gold

So, I did a bit of digging and came to this conclusion: Early Landeron movements are not well documented. Also, very early ones seems like don't even have a proper cal. number and sometimes they are based on Lowenthal movements. My best guess is that yours is one of those. I found these pictures, one is from user @Tomcat1960:

And then this one from an italian forum where they say that this is a Lowenthal based early Landeron (notice that this one has a gold hinged caseback too, just like yours, from the early 30s. It's an ESTE Watch chronograph):

There are actually a lot of similarities, they almost look the same, a part from the chronograph bridge which, at this point, could be anything like a custom bridge from a Landeron 10 or 13 or something like that.
Again, just throwing out some inputs, I'm not 100% sure, but I'd be inclined towards this direction.
