    New late '800 pocket watch

    Hello!

I am new here on WUS!
I would like to post my new vintage pocket watch, just purchased from ebay.
I am not an expert of vintage pocket watches, so I ask Your opinions
about this watch. I am very happy about it (I hope it will arrive soon in Italy)
    but I am afraid I spent to much (114 GBP / 136 EURO / 175 USD).

Thank You and Happy New 2012!

That's an interesting choice for someone new to the hobby. Its a English watch (can't make out the hallmarks, but from the style I'm guessing late 1800's), which can be a bit of a bother to maintain or fix. If your intent is actually use it as a pocket watch on a semi or ir-regular basis, you may want to invest some time in finding a local watchmaker to give it a once over first. Vintage mechanical watches are not unlike vintage cars; they require a certain amount of regular maintenance if you don't want them to fall apart on you. That said, it looks to be in good shape. Did it come with a key? If not, you'll need to find one (again, a watchmaker should be able to set you up).

Its a going barrel with an indirect winding gear, so that it wound in the same direction as a traditional fusee. It's always interesting to see such a transitional arrangement. Certainly you can wear it daily of serviced. Enjoy!

sorry what do you mean with "transitional arrangement"? Do you know what kind of key word should I use to search a video about it and learning how it works? thank you!
