    New to me pocket watch

Hamilton 992 pocket watch. While it does run, it's quite fast.

On a full wind it only lasted about 7.5 hrs... not sure what normal is but I would guess it should run longer than that.

Your guess is correct. It needs a good service and mainspring - you should be getting around a couple of days per full wind.

A standard pocketwatch mainspring should give you anywhere between 28 (lower end of the scale) to 40 (higher end of the scale) hours' worth of timekeeping. That watch obviously isn't doing that. Get it serviced and checked by a pro.

If it's running fast, chances are the hairspring is dirty or magnetized. That may also explain the low power reserve, depending on how fast we're talking.

Thanks everyone. I am thinking back and forth between just sending it to Hamilton or going to a certified jeweler that I was referred to a couple miles away... Has anyone dealt with Hamilton directly with vintage pieces? I am just curious as to your feedback.

    Thanks

Hamilton of today belongs to the Swatch group and is a Swiss brand, while yours was made by the company when it was still US based. The current Hamilton company would not be useful for you when it comes to repair or even parts supply. Go to an individual watchmaker (not jeweller).

The Hamilton that exists TODAY is NOT the Hamilton that made your watch. I'm not sure that they'll handle your watch.

Don't send it to a jeweller. Send it to a watchmaker. There's a difference in those professions. Don't be fooled.

Thanks again. I will look to the NAWCC list for help. I appreciate the feedback...
