    New pocket watches?

I'd like to get a new (non vintage) pocket watch. Doesn't seem like there are many "affordable" (< $1500) ones out there, though. The only one I know of from a manufacturer I've heard of is a Tissot one. Do y'all know of any others that you'd recommend?

    Re: New pocket watches?

There are hundreds of new pocket watches out there. It's just a matter of what you want to pay and what kind of quality you're expecting.

For $15, I could buy you a cheap, Chinese-made mechanical watch with gold-plate.

For $150 I could buy you a gold-filled mechanical pocket watch with a sub-seconds dial.

For $10 I could get you a battery-powered pocket watch made of stainless steel.

    What exactly are you after?

Thanks for the reply. I think I'd like a well-made mechanical (manual wind) pocket watch. Sub second dial or not would depend on how it looks. I'm interested in a good quality pocket watch for use with a suit or tux.

Seagull makes a very fine PW in the 3600 series http://www.seagullwatch.com/cn/produ...indid=2&page=9 it's not a stock item at US Seagull but Kevin Ma may be able to get you one at better than Chinese pricing http://www.usseagull.com/

Here's a NOS Lanco for about an eighth of your budget. Pay for a service and you've got vintage and new at the same time.

You could have a look at Sinn 1900 or Guinand pocketwatches. Or put the money into a vintage watch + service cost, your budget would open for some really high grade watches.

Glycine has their F-104 Pocket Watch and Zeno makes a PW as well. Both are perhaps a bit more contemporary looking. Omega also makes a pocket watch, but I just learned the price of those - it's above your price point.

Seiko and Orient make nice mechanical pocket watches. I'm partial to the Orient because they include the useful power reserve indicator at a reasonable price. I would only purchase the Orient from Higuchi, Rakuten or Seiya in Japan.

If you want the Orient you can order it from at least two US based dealers, both of whom are forum sponsors.

This is an excellent watch, mine keeps to 4 sec/day.

It is indeed a nice watch. The standard Orient watches with power reserve offer some of the best deals imho. One US based dealer has an unfortunate reputation for delivering watches in less than perfect condition and not providing sellers backup. The four sellers I mentioned have established reputations for decent prices and excellent service.
