Confused Non functional buttons on a Certina DS Chronolympic LCD quartz 1977

    Hi,
I recently bought this model of Certina DS Chronolympic LCD quartz from 1977, Reference 787 1420 41, Calibre Certina 787, ESA 934 712:

Very nice watch but unfortunatelly none of the buttons are responding from my input.
I have a lot of experience of trial and error of my other watches, but this one really beats me!
Does anyone have any tips & tricks or even a manual for this one? Have searched through entire internet I think without finding one.

    Regards / Stefan

Are the buttons depressing and returning to position, or do they not move at all. I have a 1978 Seiko that is still working fine. Have you tried accessing the buttons and looking for dirt or corrosion inside the case?

Yes, they are depressing without any kind of delays. Haven't tried to access them as I bought the watch as fully functional. Seems strange if all 3 buttons were affected by this phenomen at the same time.

    Thanks / Stefan

I assume the watch LCD is working (telling time)? I would contact the seller and explain the issue. There must be a problem with the electronics in the watch. It is certainly not fully functioning, as the seller advertised. I would return it.

OK, so there are no hidden combinations especially for this watch? The watch tells time and the display is without any errors.

I haven't played around with this model but other models with different movements you press the buttons 3 or 4 times in a row to change the function of the watch. So try the left buttonas as this seams to be the time/chrono switcher.

Thanks Shum, but I'm on level pressing +5 times in all kind of different combinations, so I guess this item is kind of lost.

If you can open the case you could clean the contacts with some alcohol.

My Seiko has the same sort of function. One button needs to be pushed in to activate several functions. But, you should be seeing some change in the display when doing all these different combinations. I suggest again that you return it while/if you can. IMHO.
