    Novice watch

    Hi Folks,

Has anyone heard of the Novice watch brand?
I just found my Uncles old watch that I first got probably in the late 70s or early 80s. Sometime in the 70s (guess) it acquired a leather wrist band that the thin & narrow watch band winds through. Thinking more I'm not sure if it was my Uncles or Grandfathers watch now. No matter.

Anyway, it has a dark face, numerals all round with minute markers between, and a separate seconds dial. The only writing I can see on the face or the bak is the word Novice in script. The numerals are pretty faded, I think they used to be white.

I'm in Australia if that makes a difference, and my Uncle was in the RAN Reserve for years - the watch looks a little like some of the military watches I've seen photos of. Perhaps that is why he picked it.

Anyway, I know it isn't much to go by, I'll post some photos on the weekend.

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks, the face is pretty similar barring the second markers.

    Re: Novice watch

sorry to resurrect. I think the watch may be a boys watch as it is 33mm in size, or is that a normal vintage mens watch size??? I cant get the back off, it must clip on/off rather than screw off. Trying to upload a photo but it just hangs???? the watch still runs well, just cant read the numbers easily, or see the hands easily. I may try to have the hands painted/plated.

See https://forums.watchuseek.com/f295/ho...es-805075.html You'll probably need to reduce the file size to upload your pictures.

33mm is a good size - many men's watches were smaller than that. Its just fashion that's made them look 'wrong' today.

If you search the forum you will find lots of examples. But first see: François Borgel and Louisa Borgel - inventor and makers of the Borgel watch case
