Obscure brand pocket watch - anyone has info on it?

    Hi,

I bought this pocket watch maybe about 9-10yrs ago. It was quite cheap and ran 8-10min slow every day. Fast forward to October last year, I decided to get it serviced so that I could actually use it. I didn't want to use my P.S. Bartlett nor my minimalist Baylor because they are "too nice" to use. And my Serkisof is just too damn ugly and loud to use.

I just got it back from the watchmaker yesterday and it has been keeping great time (+3 sec over a day).

I tried googling for info on the brand - "Nash International", but drew a blank. Wonder if any of you might know something about this obscure brand.

    Thanks in advance!

Obscure to me as well. Looks like it might be from the 1930s. What does the movement look like?

It's spartan inside. The movement is really a 'beater watch' movement, not decorated at all. One of the reason why I would use it, to fulfil it's raison d'être.

The dust cover is interesting - it says "Ancre de Precision"

Are there any markings under the balance?

I'm tempted to jump the gun and declare the movement to be a Unitas movement just on the basis of the plate design.

I found out who Nash was in the "Indicateur de l'horlogerie Suisse". Nash was the trade mark of the Vialux-Langel Watch Company in Bienne/Biel Switzerland. The brand name was first registed in 1975 and was still current in 2001, which is when my edition dates from. I would not be at all surprised if it was being kept alive by an accountant or attorney in hopes of selling it. Defunct Swiss watch brand names (Nivrel and Nicolet are both examples of recently founded watch companied which purchased a defunct brand name, for example) are bought and sold ,sometimes for considerable amounts.

Whoa, thanks very much for the information! Appreciate it! :thanks

If the brand was first registered in 1975, does that mean my pocket watch should not be older than that date?

Regarding markings under the balance wheel, 3 sets of characters:

On one side of the wheel, one number on top of the other:
    "6489"
    "6445"
and on the other side of the wheel, what looks like "UZ".

Are you sure it's 6489 and not 6498?

You could be right, I seem to recall that ETA started getting silly with the model numbers at one point, giving "new" model numbers to movements based on relatively minor variations in the design.

Well, it's definitely an Unitas movement (the Unitas symbol is a superimposed U and T in the ESA clover leaf shaped field) but there should be no way that that's an Unitas 6498. This is a lepine movement (small second hand opposite the crown) and the UT 6498 is a savonette calibre. The correct designation should be UT 6497 - unless it's an earlier version with different calibre designation.

I notice these plates aren't quite the same as in most pictures of Unitas movements, which have a corner cut off that is not cut off in this movement.
