    Odd Looking Accutron?

So looking for interesting Accutrons for the collection. I came upon this watch. To me it looks like water got in and wore away some of the dial marks and somebody tried to replace the minute marks with a magic marker or are my eyes deceiving me?

Yea. Or just made a mess of trying to clean the dial themselves. And then took his boyscout knife out to whittle on the band. Too bad. Was probably a nice looking Accutron.

Everything has it's time and this Accutron had it's time.

Now, you can try your talents with a magic marker...

Actually, I think this is stock and unmodified. Other than father time having his way with it. The 3, 6, 9 and noon markers would have been lumed, that is what has worn away. The seconds marks are fine, just weathered. Unfortunately, the second hand is in the exact spot where it's covering the minute hand's red paint. At least that's what shoud be there.

Isn't this a "TV dial" that was popular in the 70's?

But there's missing minute markers? Look at 39.
    *Hahaha! It's been a long day. I meant 44.

Agree with the missing lume. Little of both I would say. The marker at 9 looks to be put there.

    Re: Odd Looking Accutron?

The wandering printed markers at 44 and 57 (right up against the edge of the dial) give me an idea:

Wasn't the procedure for making a dial to do the brushed finish, pad print the printed markers, lacquer the dial, then apply the applied markers?

This looks like someone messed up a redial by lacquering the dial then pad printing new markers. The printing was left floating on the lacquer instead of protected by it. When water got in, the printing floated away.

Any chance of popping out the movement to check if the dial is notched at 3?

Here's mine. Sorry for the bad picture. It was my fathers and he bought it new. I don't ever recall there being any lume on it. The dial has a small bit of finish missing. I think it happened during service when the hands were removed but I didn't take pictures before so I don't know for sure.
