Old Benrus, anyone know anything about it?

This is an old old Benrus 17j manual wind that has been in my box for some time. I pulled it out and found in keeps really good time face up on the desk, but gains when I wear it. Anyone know anything about this one?

50's styling, I believe, and I think its one of the front-loaders, where the bezel pops off entirely, and the then crystal comes off followed by a retaining ring. I usually associate the term "Shock Absorber" to one of the older shock-proofing technologies that Benrus used extensively, but I'd have to see the movement to know.
