    Omega Cushion

As you all know my first love is Omega, I have built up a fair collection over the last few years but I have for some reason never had an Omega in the classic Dennison Cushion case, that is until now, I got a feeling that I should check out eBay the other day and for the life of me I couldn't see why but then I spotted this little gem, listed on a very low BIN price by a chap who sells loads of tools and stuff, so with 7 watchers I jumped.

So what did I get for my hard earned pennies?

An Omega box, not original to the watch but very cool in its own right

It has been well loved in the 76 years that have passed since it was purchased

The Gold plate has worn away on the case edges but I look at it this way, if it was worn this much it was a reliable and much loved watch

It's a lovely watch to wear and wears bigger that it's 30mm size, and the dial has aged to perfection

How do I date it to 1939 so precisely?

This great inscription, Greenford Methodist church, Rev J Riach, 1936-39, now what did he do to earn a watch like this for 3 years at the church? I like to think he signed up as a Padre in the army in 1939 and was brought this watch to take with him, but I guess I'll never know.I'm going to try to contact the Greenford Methodist church to see if they can help.

    Awesome find Matt.
She is a beauty!! It's very cool to think of the history of this watch and what it has seen.
Let us know what you find when you contact the church.

Another great watch, Matt! Congratulations! The dial has a lovely patina indeed...
The movement is probably an Omega 26.5SOB T2, as the years of production of this variant of this calibre correspond to the date engraved on your watch.

A cushion-cased Omega - a Staybrite or nickel version - is definitely on the list of watches I'm looking for. Gold-plated watches are something I generally avoid unless the plating would be intact. I agree that signs of wear give this thought about the past of the watch, as being something worn by someone quite extensively, and thus there is this feeling of certainty that the watch is truly reliable. One suggestion- change the crown. This one doesn't really get along well with this piece... My $0.02.
    Simple, elegant, timeless- good catch!

Thanks Guys, I agree about Plated watches in general but the inscription had me hooked, the crown will be changed at some point in the future but it does its job at the moment, the hands are also a little out of sinc' the hour hand is a couple of minutes behind the minute hand but nothing that can't be fixed at the service.

Lovely piece! If it were 2 mm bigger I would add it to my wishlist in a heartbeat. While I do like a little wear just to show the age and history I think this is a little over the top. Would you ever consider to get the case replated? If you do I know some good companies that deliver good quality work at a reasonable price.

I'm inclined to leave it at the moment, the wear looks a lot worse in the photo than in the flesh, but if I need a re plater I'll be in touch
