Opinions sought on a Certina Argonaut Chrono, Valjoux 23

I considered posting this request for opinions in Shum's dedicated Certina thread, but decided to put it in a dedicated thread to maybe attract the attention of others than Certina specialists, since the movement is from Valjoux.

I've been looking for an Argonaut Chrono for some time, but I want to find a good - though not too mint/NOS - example. This one is up for auction at you-know-where. I can see myself that the corners are not as sharp as on the most pristine specimens out there, but since I intend to wear the watch I wouldn't really want it to be NOS or too minty since I would then feel bad about wearing the watch.

What are your opinions on this one?Name: Argonaut Chrono 1.jpg

Legit and genuine, just make sure it was overhauled otherwise for a full chrono overhaul a 300-400$ invoice might be awaiting for you.

    Thanks for your reply, Georges!

Something I have noticed is that there seem to be two different types of crowns on Argonaut Chronos, as evident on the various pictures here:

    Any thoughts on that?

It's been almost a year, but anyway I ended up getting the watch and I'm happy with it.

However, when I revisited this thread I was reminded of the crown design question. I thought that I should elaborate on what I mean.

The difference I have noted is that the grip lines differ somewhat in thickness. If you look at pictures of Argonaut Chronos taken from a straight angle, either around ten lines, or eight lines are visible. I have seen both types marked with the Certina logo.

So, are the "8 line type" crowns (which are the more uncommon) replacements, or were there variations already at the time of manufacture?

Finally, I do not really expect anybody to be able to answer this, but I thought that if I shouldn't ask that question in this forum, then where in world? 🙂
