    Oris Watch Case - Help

    Good evening,

after visiting your forum the past few months and learning a lot about vintage watches I am hoping someone can help me with the following. I recently purchased a rather sorry looking Oris. The case is gold plated with stainless steel back, inside the back cover there are no makers marks. The back is stamped with the usual - Top gold plated G
Stainless steel back, shock resistant, Oris watch co swiss. However when I removed the strap there was another marking on the upper gold plated portion of the case - underscored 8 with a shield next to it with FF and an M underneath.

I have searched the internet but cannot find anything other than a inverted triangle with FM and an F underneath for the Montilier Watch Co. Are they two versions for the same company ? I have tried to take a photograph, however cannot get a clear picture and do not trust my artistic skills.

Thanks for looking and any help / assistance or advice would be appreciated.

Mikrolisk lists a few entries for "FFM" (Mikrolisk - The horological trade mark index). The ones you're after may well be Froidevaux Freres of Münschemier (& Porrentruy) who specialised in cases.

Good afternoon Hartmut, thanks for the reply. I checked Mikrolosk prior tothe post however the mark on my case was not shown. I will try and post pictures tonight although I was stuggling to get a clear picture of the mark.

Is it anything like this (halfway down the page in the link)?

Froidevaux frères, Nachfolger Guy Froidevaux in Müntschemier
