Parts supply for vintage quartz watches.

I've been eyeing up an early 1970's JLC with a Girard Perragaux quartz movement.
I've been advised that there is zero investment value in vintage quartz as genuine parts are practically impossible to find
and when they stop ticking it's best to just bin them - what's the point of that ? Is that true ?

Have a look at this thread.

Suggest that a GP parts watch -- lousy case but working movement -- can help a good watchmaker keep it running.

Just because parts are no longer around doesn't mean parts can't be repaired. And I don't know where the nonsense idea of genuine parts come from as watchmakers have made new parts for watches since the watch was once invented. My guess it's watch manufactures that have drummed this idea of genuine part so many years it's finally stuck. Yes there are bad part made in India and China but if a part is made of good quality I'd take it.

I hope 3D printing will become more advanced and one will be able to print the parts, for example a staff that is such a pain now
