Exclamation Phillips Geneva Redial Auction: Nine

This is not Bring a Brain, but yet another warning about what RUBBISH can be seen sold in auctions these days. Enter Lot 83 of the Geneva Watch Auction: Nine, a Seamaster De Ville, retailed by Tiffany & Co., and restored by - apparently - an ape:

Just look at the "Seamaster De Ville" font. This doesn't take an expert to notice. It takes anyone who ever saw a legitimate SMDV, and how the font on them looks. The Omega font is incorrect for 1974. Now, because that dial was repainted, this also means that the lume is fake - faux-aged.

    BUSTED!!!

I don't understand the auction site, are the sold prices a joke?

Could be worse. Antiquorum was selling modern Montblanc reproductions as vintage pens with a 10k CHF estimate today.

I don't think they're a joke... They're more of a testament to the buyers' stupidity.

Antiquorum already had a dreadful reputation before. Tons of fake Panerai...if only Panerai. That doesn't come as a surprise.

Not that bad, although admittedly the South Koreans making all these "Don Draper" black dial repaints on SMDVs get it better than whoever repainted this one.

Is that a black printed 6 and a 9 you can just see poking out from under the ahem, tasteful, ahem diamond hour markers?

Well observed indeed! I now spotted also a bit of the '2' from the 12.
