Confused Please can some help to date my pocket watch from West End Watch Co.

    Hi
i'm looking for help in trying to date my pocket watch which was given to my father by his father many years ago.
unfortunately i'm unable to get a picture of it online but i will give as much detail as i can.
    THE WATCH

The makers name on the front says "WEST END WATCH CO."
also underneath that it says "PIONEER"
the face is a ceramic white face with roman numbers.
there is also a second face also which i take it to be for seconds.
it is made i think either from silver or steel. (or that kind of material) sorry.
on the back there is 2 covers, once you open the outer cover there in no inscription. but on the inner cover there is what i beleive to be a serial number or identification number. this number is 3464100 which is stamped inside.
when fully open it shows what i believe to be 3 red gems.
also a lever for adjusting speed and also there is a a marking. this marking is a double circle with a 6 point star inside. inside the star there is the letter W.
i would be greatfull if anyone can help give me some history to this pocket watch or where i can find more information on it as i can't find alot on the internet.
Thank you all for your help in this.

Thanks for posting. I'm not sure of any serial number list available for West End, and without photos we can't really do much to help with ID sorry. If the number you are giving is on the case and not on the movement it is rarely useful.
Here's a thread that may give you some information.

Probably dates it to late 1800s, early 1900s.

    Correct. It's the seconds dial.

Probably silver or more likely, nickel. I don't think watches were made of steel. At least not then.

when fully open it shows what i believe to be 3 red gems.
also a lever for adjusting speed and also there is a marking.
The three gems (if that's what they are), would be jewel-bearings. There may, or may not be more of them, hidden in the movement (don't go around ripping the watch apart to find out!). The arm for adjusting speed is the regulator. It tenses or relaxes the hairspring to either speed the watch up, or slow it down.

That's all I can say. Photos would help, as Ray mentioned.
