If you want robust, I suggest antique silver graduated albert chains where each link is soldered together and hallmarked. T Bar end and through a button hole with a button. That is traditional and has worked quite well for a few hundred years.

I almost always wear jeans and they always have that pocket on the right for the watch. So, I have a chain as you pictured which I clip to my waist band (belt too thick). I also have vintage chains with the round clip which I clip around a belt loop.

If I am not wearing jeans I am probably wearing something more formal and I can't think of any good options. So I will subscribe. :)

As far as I know, that's a true fob. Before gentlemen wore watches on chains, they had them on fobs, often in the trouser pockets (the little ones for watches) rather than in the waistcoat. The fob dangled out and was used to pull the watch out.

The chain should be matched to the weight and size of the watch and purists would want to match the vintage of the chain with their watch. I wear this small platinum PW the most, on a fairly thin white gold chain attached to the vest. My wife wears her pendant watch on a more substantial double chain for adjustability and because its exposed instead of safely in a pocket.

Size: 2.40 MBthanks for the pictures and the info tick talk, most helpful.
I learn something new every day, I've another ribbon fob somewhere, although I haven't seen it for years, I remember it being much older and it was a rolled gold one.

What's missing from this?! Nothing, as far as I can see. In your first picture, the extra chain bit was hidden and that might have been construed to be missing, but now that I see it there, you have a means of attaching the fob to the watch and leaving a little bit of chain to go into the pocket so that the entire fob hangs free.
