    POST YOUR WYLER!!!

They had this thing about balance wheels - don't know if the designs worked or not... purpose was to prevent the staff pivots from breaking.

I believe the extra bit above the escapement that goes out to the balance is to prevent too much flex in a shock to the balance. Just a theory.

My Wyler...still need to get a crystal...

Well based on the long time they manufactured this style of balance and the fact that Elgin made the Durabalance which seemed to go a bit further...it must have worked.

[ELGIN] Forgotten Masterpieces: The Last Elgins

The Durabalance though is almost, or is, a freesprung idea. The regulation is done on the balance and there is no beat adjustment. Just a spring and an adjusted balance. The movements also featured a guard, on some, to protect from too much flex.
