Real or Fake Vintage Patek Philippe???

    Hi everyone,

I have very little experience with watches... I own a TH Carrera and Rolex Submariner.

My uncle sent me a package today with a mysterious item in it - my late grandfather's watch. My wife and I just had our first baby (a boy) and my uncle wrote a note saying that my grandfather would have wanted us to have it. I have no idea if it's real or not. Part of me doens't really want to find out but curiousity is getting to me.

Attached are some pictures. The face is pretty worn...

Real or not, it still works - appears to be very old, and has some (I think) features of a real PP. Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

If you could add movement pics that would answer for sure. It looks ok to me but its hard to tell.

Thanks for the reply. Any idea on how to get the back off safely? I'd hate to mess it up.

It will unscrew counter clockwise. If it is loose you may be able to use your fingers but if its tight you will need a tool. I would recommend taking it to a jeweler that is competent enough to remove the back and take pics.

Yes a competent jeweller will be able to remove the case back for you, if you wanted to give it a shot on your own you can roll up some duct tape into a ball sticky side out and place on the back and twist

Definitely post up movement pics once you get it open!

Cool. I gave the duct tape a shot. It's on there pretty well. I'll take it to a quality jeweller tomorrow and have them open it. I will take and add pics.

    Thanks for the replies!

I suspect the beads of rice bracelet to be a replacement for 2 reasons a)it looks crudely attached when looking at the reverse and b)the original bracelet would be signed.Other than that it could be legit, made in the mid to late 50`s is my guess.

It is REAL...... I think its steel.... I have all the 60s Patek steel watches and I don't recognise this one. Perhaps its another metal??

I would be highly surprised if it turns out to be a fake.

A few pictures to see the similarities......

Nice watch, I agree it looks like the real thing.
Your's are great too Oinkett, is that a Montal bracelet on the middle one?
I have a similar one with the slide-on curved end pieces.

    Cheers, Bob.
