Recently available large mc gold Elgin

This recent purchase without competition indicates that in my territory fine pocketwatch buyers are increasingly fading away. 2+ oz. of 14k did not boost the cost compared to 2/3 cheaper gold. It came from a professional well aware of collector values who does very well on ebay who honestly prices favorably for me, but cannot afford to not make some profit. Anyway I was pleased he made it very agreeably available because it really is a substantial nice quality extra large one for the desireable 16 size. This a brilliantly colored one. Not all are. As usual photos have deficiencies in showing natural color. The movement is from 1896. Right age but not original. Has the best plate decoration called Lacework not clear in photo.

    looks a cracker nice catch
A man with a watch always knows what the time is. A man with two watches is never sure.

These relics of Victorian wretched excess do have a strange appeal as large colorful chunks of gold showing evidence of lots of man and woman hours composing complex arrangements mostly unique. There is a certain amount of ownership greed for something special if not truly artistically important. Because of the relative rarity and unlikely counterfieting there is a little investment potential. Even in China these likely would not be made for twice the material cost? My opinion. Good comment Riverman.

You've done very well to accumulate so many of these
    exquisite, ornate gold cases.

They must be very rare, I've never seen the likes of these outside
the pics of your collection and I would think they definately have
'investment potential', as do all your other watches I have seen.

You have a 'good eye' artb.
