    Question Recommendations while visiting France?

I'll be in France for a few weeks this summer and plan to browse antique shops and markets for watches. Can the forum recommend some quality French brands to look out for? I'm looking for wristwatches made in or around the mid-60's (earlier is likely to be too small for me, later too ugly) and ideally from a manufacturer rarely seen outside France and who tried to compete on quality with the Swiss names.

Lip would be a good one.
They made one of the earliest transistorized movements.

    Yema is another one.

I found Michele Herbelin and Saint-Honore in a web search.

For the time frame you're looking in, there should be several mechanical, automatic and electronic options.
I've got more Converse sneakers than watches, but it is a close race.

Have you seen a lot of those brands from the 1960's then?

Thanks, I had found Yema but wasn't sure how well made they were. I do like their sculpted case backs.
LIP confuses me since outside of the Electronic I can't tell how much they manufactured and how much they just re-sold.

    Some of my French watches:

    Lip with Jeanbrum 23D movement:

Electra - a Lip brand - also with Jeanbrum 23D

    Yema:

But see this thread for more impressive Yemas: https://forums.watchuseek.com/f11/yema-443488.html

    Hi charmquark

Try LIP (but they're pretty expensive from this era) and YEMA.

    Thanks to all who responded, I'll keep my eyes open;

Yema seems the most likely to be found abandoned in a village charity shop or antique stall. I was hoping there might be some hidden gems from French companies which never exported and died out when quartz came along, but I guess the internet has turned every stone by now :D

I knew about LIP from the history of electric watches, it'd be nice if I could find a compressor cased model.
