    Red dial Bulova

Hi guys, I asked about this Bulova over on WTF and was informed that all of these old vintage watches with red dials are re-dials. I am not disputing this but on the other hand I would like a second opinion, lol. If they are all re-dials,what was their reasoning behind doing this? Anyhoo, all info welcome, thanks.
    Sorry for the crappy pic.

Definitely not factory. That model had a silvered dial. I don't know why someone would do that.

    That's a redial for sure.

    Re: Red dial Bulova

The reason for these brightly coloured redials? I guess the simplest reason is that it can be done inexpensively and the watches sell. There would be a market for olde-worlde looking watches that are bright and cheerful - for people who have no particular interest in vintage watches as such, but just like the fashion. There were some coloured dials issued by the companies originally but not like these redials offered from Indian and other sources. An associated issue is that the movements in many of the watches from these sources appear to have suffered significant corrosion - possibly leading their unsuspecting purchasers into unwanted servicing issues/expenses sooner rather than later.

It's all just more erosion of the finite stocks of vintage watches.

    Re: Red dial Bulova

    All correct, definite redial.
This case came in two configurations, the Squadron in the 1940's and the Beau Brummel in the early 1950's.
At least these brightly refinished watches are sort of honest in their gaudiness, and can't be mistaken by your average WIS!

    Enjoy it!
As said, it is an honest piece and I have nothing against these colourful redials, as long as no claims to being the original colour.
    Cheers,
    Bob.

    Re: Red dial Bulova

There is a vendor on eBay that sells re-dialed Hamiltons, Bulovas and Lord Elgins etc that are painted like this. They get decent money for them as well, but I dont like how they dont say they are redials. They seem to be well done, but they need to say they are redialed.

Also, if a pot leaf is emblazoned on the dial, odds are good it is a redial.
