    Renis Chrono - completely overhauled

EDIT: darn auto correct - it's a Renis, of course!

I got this beauty from my dad some 20 years ago. It was in really rough shape - the chrome had come off all around it, it was badly scratched, the crystal was almost coming apart.

I had it completely overhauled and re-finished. I know it isn't worth much per se, but it's a great little chrono with a Valjoux 7733 movement - a workhorse and pretty accurate. I think they did a great job on it. Looks fantastic for its 44 years - what do you think?

I have a watch with a similar case which needs polishing. Was the brushed surface on top our your case also done or was that kept original? I want that look back again when I have my case done.

The top was brushed and the sides were re-chromed, the back was polished - not cheap, but to me it's worth the price

I know, I forgot to take one It looked like this one, though - with slightly less overall wear, but with some very large spots where the chrome had come off on the sides and the steel underneath had oxidized quite badly.

That one's from eBay - not my picture.

Lovely refinish job. The brushed finish on the top of the case is called 'lapping' and it's incredibly hard to find anyone who can do it. They look like they've done fabulous work. Did you get the case work done locally (CH), may I ask?

After all's been said and done, there's a lot more said than done...

Patina: little pieces of history put on old watches and forgotten there by the maker of time

"Miracles?", he asked. "Forget about miracles. Those who walk on water just know where the stepstones are."

"Luxury watches - you acquire the right to take care of them, but they remain the property of their manufacturers."

It was done in Switzerland - that's all I know. I took it to a local watchmaker in Weinfelden and he sent it to another company because he couldn't do the chrome job himself. So the company that did the chroming also ended up doing the brushing and the movement service.

Definitely - these overhaul jobs are expensive, but if you consider what a relatively thin chrono with a mechanical movement costs new today, it's still worth it.
