I know many of you have heard about this watch and my story...if so skip to the "Start Here" markings below.
I got this Vulcain Cricket from a local pawn shop 2 months or so back. While cleaning up the case I saw this white crud under the edge of the case back. So in my cleaning i scraped that out and thought the back was not fully seated. I popped the back off and looked to see why it could be like that. All looking right and finished admiring the clean shiny MSR S2 movement I go out my "cheap" case press.
I picked the right size disks and set the watch into it. In hindsight I do remember thinking back about how one of the disks cracked on me before. I looked over and saw the cracked one and went back to pressing. More and more pressure then...bam! back disk split and the haves shot in 2 directions as the part that held it slammed full force into the case back. The immediate shock turned to horror. I quickly turned it over to see the seconds hand tick its last.
Upon removing the dented back I found the bridge below dented down. The center jewel crushed to a powder and the next jewel over cracked.
I tried to get the inner back hammered out as best I could. It sounds right and the outer back does cover it. I may still buy a new inner back.
The seconds pinion arrived today and I got the watch going again. I was looking at the dial and I said to the wife "What do you think of the green dial?". Her response was "It's blue"......So what do you see? Blue or green?
A crystal is next on my to do list.
