Had to travel out of town this weekend and stopped off in a small rural township for breakfast. As you do, I dropped in to the local second hand shop and asked if I could look at their old watches. The usual bunch of Quartz and digital cheapies but hiding down the bottom with a $4 tag on it was this.
I don't (didn't) know anything about Roamers and this one looked like it had a broken stem (I now know thanks to the really helpful watch guys here in NZ it's not broken, just missing the crown). Also the crystal was cracked and something ominous rattled inside!
But after getting it opened up it transpires it was just an unattached balance weight and once reattached it started to run - no problems.
Looking up the Vintage Roamer site it appears that this Rotopower 44 Jewel calibre MST 436 and this case 147436 was made for a relatively short period in the early 60s.
So all I need now is a crown and crystal - though I can live with the cracked one for the time being now it's cleaned up - and a nice brown calf leather strap.
