Roamer Watch - How old is it & how to get it repaired

Hi, my dad has given me his granddads watch and I wanted to find out how old it is? and any other information? (we don't know when my granddad got it - he was born 1905). Its Roamer Swiss Made and when I have looked online I can't find a picture of one with the same position of the numbers.

It doesn't work and the glass cover has gone. I would love to get it working as it would be great for my dad to see it working again as he is in his late 70's now. does anyone have any suggestions about who may be the best people to repair it?

Hello Pauline, based entirely on the Deco looks of the watch I'd place it in between the 20's and the 40's, it's going to take a good watchmaker and a not inconsiderable amount of time to restore your watch but as it means so much to your family it's probably worth it, I wish you luck.
can we have some pic's of the movement?

    Matt

Roamer Watch - How old is it & how to get it repaired

Hi Pauline. I would date the watch to the 1930's. I have a couple of similar watches such as this one

Which would lead me to speculate on it having an MST 293 calibre inside. A new crystal will be simple to source but the hands will be harder. Depending on the condition of the movement there is no reason why it can't be made to work again. You may need to obtain a donor movement but these can be found relatively easily.

People may be able to suggest a watchmaker if you tell us where in the world you are.

Don't read too much into the positioning of the numbers as Roamer fitted a large number of dial variations into their watches.

Thanks Matt. How do I take the back off - Im assuming this is how I will see the insides? It looks like it has a little grove, is that where i should try to lift the back off? Yes it is rather precious as my granddad passed away over 40 years ago so it would be amazing to surprise my dad and for him to see it work again.

Hi Matt, I live in SW London. Any suggestions for a watchmaker would be most welcome.

You can try asking Scott https://forums.watchuseek.com/member.php?u=220983 alias SDAsurrey, send him a PM he's nearer your neck of the woods, he has a tame watchmaker, Scott's a great fellow and I'm sure he'll try to help you out.

Oh and if you're not sure how to open the back it's probably best not to try until you can get to a watchmaker.

Size: 874.1 KBPics of the inside. The first cover has engraved 7013, 2394/L 9266/M 16607/L and one other set of numbers I can't read.

All the scratched in numbers are watchmakers marks from previous services, It should look a great deal better when serviced up and with a new crystal and hand set, keep us posted.

So an MST 154. Likely pushes the date back into the 1920's. To be more precise we'd need to see under the dial.

Since I'm also SW London I was going to offer to open the case but not necessary now.

A closer match then would be this watch.

Thank you Mirius, its nice to have an idea on how old it is. I am going to contact the watchmaker Matt suggested and hopefully get it working again.
