    Rolex 1625-Help please!

Hello. I´m requesting your help. I´m considering buying this watch and any help would be greatly appreciated. The reference number is 1625 and the serial number is 1882xxx.
The pic is not that good but I will be able to inspect it before buying. What should I look for? Would $1,300 be a fair price. Thanks.

I'm not a Rolex specialist, but, there are a couple of details that look slightly suspicious, namely the crown and the cyclop lens that somehow looks misaligned and somehow big for the date window...
The strap, on the other hand, looks very legit...
As I said, I'm not a specialist, but I'm getting a strange vibe from that watch....
Do you have the opportunity to have the watch inspected by a watchmaker? I personally would like to have a look at the movement before I commit myself.
Otherwise, yeah, if it's 100% legit, the price is good, very good, even.
    I hope this helps,
    best,
    f.j.

    Hi -

I know so little about Rolex watches that to even venture a guess would be an enormous disservice.

But as redjackbonney mentions, if you can have a watchmaker look at it before you finalize the purchase, preferably one that does know Rolex watches, that would be good and proper due diligence.

My rule of thumb for buying vintage watches is to take a risk up to €300, ca $360. Anything above that, either I need to have dealt with the seller before or I am going to want to take it to the watchmaker I use, who specializes in vintage and high-end watches (he sells ChronoSwiss and Omega...)

Thanks Redjack and John. Great advice. I think I will play it safe and pass on this one. I also felt there was something wrong with the crown and cyclops but wasn´t sure.
    Thanks again.

    Re: Rolex 1625-Help please!

    Hi Andrés,

it may depend on illumination and aspect angle that the lens and the crown
appear a little strange. But I'd not worry about eventually replacing these
parts, if the price is attractive.

However, there is one special Rolex problem: Their reputation to run precisely
for decades is no fairy tale. In fact the relatively heavy balance and the big
barrel lets them run precisely even without lubrication until all pivots have
turned to powder. So I would never buy an old Rolex without having inspected
    the movement.

    Regards, Roland Ranfft

Thanks Roland for your help. I wasn´t aware of this. That´s exactly why I asked... there are so many things to consider... a lot to learn.
