    Rotary watch

I got this in an auction and am wondering if it looks legit to the experts here and would like to learn more about the brand. My concerns are that it looks to me like a 1940s watch but the dial looks almost too clean to be that old. Also that the case it wrong because its not signed "Rotary" BUT I also have a Rotary ladies watch in the same style in a plated case that is also signed "Stainex" in the case back. Either way I like the watch alot but paying 90 dollars for it if it is some franken I will probably return it. Also information about the age/movement would be great.

If it's a re-dial, the quality is unusually good. And let's face it, the dial is gorgeous; I don't blame you for taking a chance on it. I'm not sure I would have expected blued hands with that dial, but the size is right and the lume color is well-matched. My gut feeling is that you did well for that price, even if it's not 100% original.

    Re: Rotary watch

I fail to image how someone took so much effort to create a fantasy watch like this considering the brand is not balooned

Dial looks ok, case matches the movement(INCABLOC, ETA 930 or smth from that gang). I have no idea what can be wrong with it

On the other hand You can return it, to me :D
    Chaos is my focus

    Re: Rotary watch

I think you may have struck lucky and come up with a well preserved original.
As some of the previous commments have noted it`s not a hugely collected brand but I believe Rotary and some other brands like Avia were once pretty well regarded and apparently produced some pretty decent watches even if they didn`t use in house movements/cases etc.
I think the watch looks great and late `40`s too as I think many pre WW2 watches tendeded to be often only 15 jewels and often didn`t use incabloc.
It looks as though the strap might be a stiched on vintage piece too.
I`d keep it myself if it`s working Ok :0)

This is really great news thanks for the information. The watch is amazing and running very well I shouldnt have done it but I wore it for a day and the dial is just amazing in the sunlight. Now I will put it away and at the head of the line for watches to get sent for service. I was pretty sure that redialers couldnt do such a good dial but had to check here the sellers photos were blurry so I took a chance bidding all I knew is it looked clean. The watch is like a time machine I never saw such a clean watch this old.

    Re: Rotary watch

    Hi there,

I've no doubts about authenticy either. Nobody would make a single dial with selective gold plating and two-tone finish in this quality for $90, and then even add a complete watch with early steel case.

Some dial factories simply were able to produce durable dials, either by knowledge or by accident. Unfortunately many top grade brands were not their customers, while e.g. contemporary cheap pinlevers from Kienzle have almost always a mint dial (except a botcher ruined it).

    Nice!!!!

Even if it was a redial, I would not kick it out of my watch box.
