    Seeking information - Rotary Super41

    Hi guys!

A friend of mine recently looked through his granddads old stuff and found this watch: Rotary Super 41.

I have been trying to find information about it online for him, but am struggling to find any good information.

The information I am seeking is:
    - Year of production (So far i think it is between 1950-70)
    - Price (Estimation of today value)
    - General information

    Any information is good!
    Thank you in advance.

We don't give valuations here, so can't help with the value. The best way of finding it out yourself is to look up completed eBay listings.

Rotary was a well-known brand once (now they don't really make anything interesting anymore), and there are some Rotary fans here who will tell you more.

As to the movement in the watch, we'd need to see it in order to tell you what it is. If you cannot open the case yourself ( without the right tools I would discourage even trying to do that), a watchmaker should open it for free.

1950s are not likely the period of manufacture. Early to mid 1960s, I think. 1970s seem unlikely as well.
Exact year of manufacture is most likely impossible to find- but a handful of brands has any proper records, and serial number charts aren't available for the vast majority of watch manufacturers.

    Thank you for the input!

I do not mean to sell this piece, it is just pure curiosity why we want to know its value! We have been trying to find it out on eBay and other auction sites, but none list the price it was sold for and eBay listings come up short as well.

I hope i haven't violated any of the forum rules! If so, i would ask a moderator to delete this post and I will make a new one.

Please keep the information and tips coming!
I have the tools, but I wont be trying to open it myself until i know the value. If it should be worth something, I would go to a watchmaker (Unfortunately, everything costs something in Norway, or they will tell you that they do not take in the brand and cannot help).

    Thank you!

Nice looking watch, 41 jewels, looks like this is from the jewel wars, when companies competed for the most jewels, I think 77 is the most, funny thing is after 17 most of them seem to be superfluous and of little real value to the workings of the movement but having said that they are of no detriment either, at the time Rotary were knocking out some good stuff and I'd say this is worth saving, serviced and on a nice black leather strap it would look good on anyone's wrist.

Also, the "Super" is a reference to the snap-back super compressor case. These were especially waterproof cases, and those with single crowns, like this one, are sought after by some collectors (more had two crowns and bigger cases).

    *learning so much!*

Thank you guys! Please, if anybody has any more information, i would love to hear it.

Also, does anybody know if it s possible to change the glass?

    For the record:
He is absolutely not planning on selling it (!). He wanted me to have it and work on cleaning it. But if it's a rare watch, i think i might have a watchmaker take a look at it and do the claning.

Yes. I got 4 results, but only one looked like my friends, but in a better condition.

The price of that watch cost around $600. The one we've got has no papers and needs cleaning. So not sure if we can compare.

Also, since that is the only listing, I can't be sure if it was some collector that really wanted the watch, or if it's the price is representative for the watch... So I hoped for some solid input on the forums!

    Thank you for the reply!

It was sold for $450 as offer history shows. Even at that price I think seller just got extremely lucky, I think the other listings are more close to reality
    So Good luck :)

Nice one, it will be a very nice watch once cleaned up and serviced. They are an unassuming, quality, nicely finished watch. The movement should be an AS1701, I believe.
