Tonight i went over to see my Seiko watchmaker and dropped off a 6306 that a mate who's newly into vintage Seikos picked up this afternoon.. and what a surprise i had in store!
A little backstory.. my watchmaker had found at work an original gold 6139 dial, the no text at 9 variety.. And swapped out the black dial from one of his 6002's to create a gold dial version for him to keep. Anyway after seeing the dial a few weeks back I said I'd really like one but with the sheer amount of aftermarket crap out there I'd been put off.
I get there tonight and he says hey have a look at this.. And pulls out another but all original with the original gold dial and dark red hands. He said he was digging through his old boxes from his old man and uncle (a few generations of watchmakers) and came across it.
We ended up swapping the tachy bezel with a well used but better one.. And swapped the inner rotating bezel for a mint black one from another parts watch.
As this one was Australian delivered it had an original black ring that had faded to grey. This should put an end to the debate as I've taken a pic of the side and back showing it grey on the top and black on the side and underneath. I will put the pics in another thread also for ease of finding it for others.
I asked him for a price and he said $450 including a service and full rebuild. He let me take it before giving him anything for it because I said I wanted to ogle it for the meantime. I think it's an absolute bargain. As you can probably tell, i've built up quite a good relationship with this guy and it's certainly paid off.
Anyway some pictures.
The rotating ring..
The dial and hands..
And with the swapped tachy and rotating bezels.
