    Shop recommendation, Birmingham UK

    Dear All,

Could anybody recommend a good watch repairer in Birmingham (or the West Midlands) in the UK. I have a 50's omega that needs a service which would include a new crystal, dial maintenance, hands maintenance, case polish, and the fitting of a new strap.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I've been really happy with my watchmaker from the UK. Not sure where the Midlands end exactly? You can find info on his website http://watchguy.co.uk

I'm from the Netherlands myself, so he's very much not local for me, but my main reason for sending my watches to him is that he documents it all on his blog, so I can see exactly what he did to my babies ;)

Dankje wel for the advice! I can make it anywhere in the midlands, so that's not a problem.

Thank you for the tip, I will see what he says and compare his quote with others. Are his prices "reasonable"?

Where in the NL are you from? I used to live in Utrecht, and I'm looking forwards to returning to Holland for study. (The watch needs to be fixed by then!)

I live in Amersfoort, which is about 15 ~20 minutes by car or train from Utrecht. Going there tomorrow as a matter of fact.

The last quote I got from Christian was £20 for a check, oiling and adjust, or £80 for a full service. I don't know if this is different for different brands/models, or if his prices will stay the same in '13.
He usualy responds quickly to his emails, so if you want to be sure, just ask him ;)

Ah, I am familiar with amersfoort, I went to school in Hilversum for a while.

As you can see from the picture, the watch needs quite a lot of work. I would like a new glass/crystal, the movement has not been serviced since 1956, so I'm sure it's caked in dirt.

Can I ask which of his blog entries are your "babies"?

The Certina Kim, a Prisma (model unknown), the 'worst redial ever' ;) and the Shanghai watch that was a GiveAway watch twice on WUS. Search for Joris :)

I will definitely have a look at them.

I went to school and did my International baccalaureate there. In 09-10 I did a year at RSM, I hope to go for an MSc at VU, Groningen or Eindhoven next year.
