Should I get a 1942 Elgin A11 or a 1975 Bulova Accutron Spaceview 214 Caliber

    Hi Everybody,

I was looking through watches and I seemed to have stumbled upon two watches that have both piqued my interest. One is an Elgin A11 from 1942/1943 and the other is a 1975 Bulova Accutron Spaceview 214 Caliber. I love the look of both watches and as much as I'd like to own both, I can only afford one at the moment. I can't seem to decide on which one, so I wanted to ask yall if had any suggestion on which one I should get.

Thanks

Those watches are both iconic and classics in their own right, but very diferent, almost opposite ends of the spectrum stylistically and mechanically. The A11 is likely a more straigtforward and easy to service watch. You’ll find someone local to service the A11, but will likely have to ship the Bulova to a specialist, unless you are in a larger city. It really comes down to personal preference.

Servicing is something I should have taken into consideration. If that's the case, then I'll probably get the A11 now and maybe get the space view at a later date when I know I can afford to have it properly serviced. Thank you for your help.

Be aware, though, that the A11 is small by modern standards. Well, really, the Spaceview is small by modern standards. The A11 is TINY by modern standards! About 30mm in diameter. That's the size men's watches were then. Some folks can't get accustomed to that, and feel silly wearing them. Me? I like 'em that size.
