    Smiths Deluxe...... Made in England!

Came back from a trip away to find this watch waiting for me!

Thought it would make a good companion for my Military Smiths!

I see it as the unlumed version of the Everest Deluxe - same 15J movement, sub seconds and case design! I found this interesting thread on another forum that includes a picture of the actual (supposedly) watch worn by Hillary....

I assume mine also dates to a similar pariod - early/mid 50s.... but without any way to date the watch (unless someone can inform me), I cant be certain of its age!

I also assume this is the 104 cal - as listed by Roland...

As for the case.... its in surprisingly good condition for chrome plated... only wear is to the rear of the lugs!

But the thing I find most beautiful about these watches is the guilt movements.....

As you can see... its a beauty! As with my military watch, Im unsure if the serial number under the balance provides any information?

Any thoughts or info on this would be much appreciated??

    Nice buy Sparc.

The movements in the high end Smiths are undoubtably good quality.

There's also the Smiths Everest, worn by Hillary on his famous ascent
It also contains a good quality movement and is much sought after.

There are a couple of dealers on ebay (UK) who seem to have pushed the price of Smiths up a fair bit over the last couple of years. But they are nice - congrats.

The Smiths 'Everest' watch came out after the ascent.... it was the Deluxe that was worn! The deluxe was then advertised as the 'Everest', as in Marricks Advert.... the 'Everest' branded watches came after.... I think!

    Cheers,

I think this is one of the sellers you are refering to? But he provides a good guide....

    Cheers Joe,

As for price... I probably paid too much.... but less than some I watched!

Thanks 'tick talk' for the info... I have not seen that page before. Do you know the date of the catalogue it was taken from? post 1953?

    Cheers
