    Tank with Engraved Metal Dial

I find this watch very striking, but I've never seen a dial like this on an Eterna before. Authentic, pollished, franken? What's the verdict?

Looks too well done to be a "franken" IMO. Could have been a mfg's experiment or "salesman's sample" to see if it generated any retailer interest?

The movement is quite difficult to identify- certainly not listed in the Ranfft archive. schild-eterna.de, however, lists a watch with a 10''' movement like this one, described as a cal. 82. No further info about it, sadly.
The serial 265... would date it to 1936, however what has me worried, is that the movement looks somewhat odd- little doubt do I have that it's by Eterna, but the finishing is somewhat below the Eterna standards, and the place where the serial is located looks as if someone first machined off the serial, and replaced it with a new engraving.

Agreed, and I'm wondering what would prompt someone to do that. The serial number on the case is 2401496, so the sequence seems about right.

If there were online pictures of that movement in another case that would be a good reason to eradicate the old serial.

240...would be for circa 1931. 5 years of a gap is quite a lot. Combined with the more than suspicious serial on the movement, I'd say that it's more than likely that something's wrong with this watch in terms of authenticity.
