Thoughts on a stain / radium burn

    Hi all,

Is there any remedy for a stain of this nature? It looks like a pretty severe radium burn. Normally I don't mind patina, I actually prefer a nice even patina in many cases - but I'm not a fan of this kind of damage.

I'm guessing this stain would go through the clearcoat or lacquer on the dial, but I'm not certain...

Looks more like rust. A radium is usually not so sharp.

Good point Dan, it resembles the shape of the date pointer that isn't lumed so it could very well be rust. Either way, is this something anyone has experience with "cleaning" off of a dial?

I know it's a venture that may lead to being worse than what you started with, but I am curious. The watch in question is not mine, just one that has caught my eye.

I'd suggest lightly wiping the area with Rodico or a moistened Q-tip. LIGHTLY! See if it comes off. If it's rust transferred from the date pointer, it should just be on the surface. And even if it runs deeper, you may remove a lot of it that is just on the surface.
