Thrift shop treasures: 1960's Longines Grand Prize auto

What a pleasant little surprise to find this little gem hiding at the thrift shop today. She needs a bit of a cleaning and a good crystal polish, but the elegance is still peeking through. From comparables online it's most likely from the late 60's (will check the serial when I take it to my watchmaker for a tune up) caliber 345 17 jewel auto. I'll post some photos of the movement after I visit the watchmaker.
    Cheers!

Very nice. Thrift stores can be good hunting grounds on rare occasions. Great find.

In the mid 80s and early 90s when my collecting focus was on 1920S to 1950s Tanq, cushion case, generally Art Deco with exceptions, etc. Usually gold fill. ( no sentences , oh well) I had incredible luck with Thrift shops. Half or more of my collection of that Type of watch is from Thrift stores. There are Hamilton, Elgin, Bulova, Wittenhaer, Benrus, many unknown Swiss, and I usually never paid more than 10 or 12 bucks. In the 2000s my attention had shifted to Mid Century Pieces. No gold, and no Thrift store finds either. One exception is my Timex Dynabeat. Thats it. I sell on ebay so Im in a lot of thrift shops. Nary a watch around of any type. Paleotime is correct. Very rare occasions, for me at least. Perhaps in the early 90s there were less watch collectors around. I dont know. Another big part of my collection of the type mention above was acquired in a peculiar way which I have told here before I think. In the very early 90s, my Mom downsized into an apartment in the city. The young Doorman / Concierge, either admired a watch on my wrist or vice versa. All of a sudden he pulled out of his jacket a soft wrap case filled with vintage watches. For sale. They were always 35 bucks. No more no less. My favorite of the many, many I bought and kept (or flipped) is my Hamilton Steeldon. Even though its small by todays standards it has a strong presence. I look at the price its going for nowadays and ....so much for my trip down memory lane. Didnt mean to high jack your post. Beautiful watch. Wear it well.

It's been a while, but I promised photos. Here's the new addition! I have a vintage Omega Constellation Chronometer on its way as well!
