Timex Electric and Automatic Diver Style Arrival

Ok ok, I finally had to get a Timex Electric. After weeks of searching on and off line, I finally found this Timex Electric WITH the original box, manual and warranty papers......and for some reason (probably since the auction ended on a Wed morning) I won the auction for the princely sum of $10. It is running and keeping time like a champ. The condition, as you can see in the pictures, is really, really nice. The band that came with it (it said made in China so I dont think it is original) was ugly and too big for me. It has 3/4 lugs so I had a 20mm band that fit fine and seems to go well on it. It does not have the usual Timex style and date at the bottom of the dial, so I will take guesses as to the year. I dont usually buy Timex (they just are not worth much usually) but the Electrics go for a bit more along with the Dynabeats and this one was so nice I decided to try one. I had no idea I would get it so cheap and that it would run so well. I was planning on selling it after looking it over, but its here to stay.

This is the Diver style....it is very nice shape and seems to be running very nicely....The case and crystal are pretty good for a 73. The lugs are actually smaller than the dress Electric above (11/16). I have some cleaning to do on it, but that is part of the fun of a new, old watch! I have a black Russian Military style band coming from Ukraine so I think it will go on that when it gets here....but this funky green one looks decent enough for now.

Funny I also picked up an Electric and a diver and it's fun they cost so little.

A big old Electric Dynabeat and a baby diver. It's odd that a watch that looks so bad can work so well like the diver does.

My Electric is pretty big for an older watch, bigger than the diver as well. Like them or hate them, one has to admit how sturdy Timex' really are.

Some Dynabeats got really fat as well so It must have been the trend in the 70's that bigger was better. Also the battery hach came back which was part of the very first Electrics.

Here is a early and late Dynabeat side by side. One interesting thing is that some of the later ones like the one on the right were made with stainless steel cases so they really were high quality watches. The one on the left has a chrome case and you see how bad it looks and not worth fixing up.

With just a few minutes of polishing, the Diver cleaned right up and looks really sharp. Here you can see the size difference.

That diver is looking darn good and it will sell not only to Timex collectors but diver collectors as well for cheap divers are all the rage.

I agee. I only have the one Electric but I really like the retro look and it's reasonably large for its age - and is really accurate.

Do you guys think $40 was too much for the diver? It seems to me that is full on retail for it. I just don't know the market for Timex like i do other brands.
