    Timex Model 62 Time Machine

Picked up a thrift bag of watches today for $6. In it was an older 16s Elgin GF Pocket watch ( pretty beat up). A working vintage Caravelle, a pretty cool older Swatch. What I didn't see until I emptied the bag was this working Model 62 Time Machine ( I think it's a model 62...I hope). Anyway being a Timex collector I was very happy to see this and add it to my other electric family. Came on a Speidel gf beads of rice band. Anyone know what the original band on these was ?

    Hi Giotime,

Nice pick up on a classic Timex.

Believe the bracelet looked like this

I have one of these and wrote about here...

Sadly the images have been photobucked - I might try and renew the post with new images.

@James A. Thank you for getting me that link to your past thread. Great information on this watch. My watch had a corroded Rayovac RW42 battery. Must have been in there for years. Once I put a new 357 in it has been keeping perfect time albeit it has been less than 24 hours. Fun watch.

That looks like a quartz hybrid. Does it do the quartz 1 step tick or does it sort of glide around the dial?

This is a quartz hybrid-mechanical. It is not a one step Quartz movement, nor it is it a smooth glide. Somewhere in between. This model 62 was made for one year only in 1972. Then from 1973-1980 a model 63 was produced that used the timex electric 40 as its platform.

Pop the back off. If it looks like the pic below it's an M62.

If it looks like this, it's an M63:

I love my M63 "Big Q", and it's a wonderful time keeper; within 30 or so seconds a month.

Re: Timex Model 62 Time Machine

Here is an old Timex service sheet on the 62.

Since you posted I've been looking for an old Timex 62 ad that showed all the different coloured dials including yours. If I come across it I'll post it here.

    Regards.

Re: Timex Model 62 Time Machine

Thanks James for the service manual. I've been trying to find out where that regulation device is. Although this watch which I don't think has run for years is keeping perfect time. I mean 1 second slow in 3 days. Also found this bit of information about colors... I believe this came from your great write up about these. Would love to see advertisement with photos.
