    Two top notch Elgin movements

Recent finds. The top 6 size, grade 176 (recased in a silver case):

And the 16s Veritas, 21 jewel, RR grade, with wonderfully finished gear train and escapement! Gold balance screws and jewel settings of course :)

Both are very fine examples. The plate finish on the 21j movement is incredible - especially given its age. Thanks for the pictures...

Beautiful... and they sell for a pittance of what they would cost to make today!

Beautiful! I especially love the Veritas. Elgin's 3-finger 16s movements are cool - my Grandfather had one, a 15j HC in an GF case with his name engraved.

Beautiful... and they sell for a pittance of what they would cost to make today!
That's one of the joys of collecting American vintage watches - mostly they sell for a fraction of what they cost new, adjusted for inflation, and many of them have decades of use left in them!
