    Ultra-Chron Info

Can somebody give me some info on this watch? Specifically, the movement, year, and beats per minute? Thanks in advance.Name: Ultra-Chron.jpg

Probably late 1960s, cal 431, 36k bph. It is helpful to include photos of the movement when asking questions like this.

Those are some funky hands on that watch.

Yeah, I would have liked to include a picture of the movement but you need a special wrench to open the back which I don't have. I plan on getting it serviced in the very near future even though it runs well. Also, I just realized that in the picture the hands look a little greenish compared to the dial. In actuality, the strips down the hands closely match the gold dial. Thanks for the info.

Generally speaking, the correct hour and minute hands for a dial like that would be thinner and more delicate, and have black-inlays surrounded by chrome-plated metal (matching the color of the seconds hand).

It could be early 70s, especially given the hands. You have to be a bit careful as Longines slowed the movement down in the early 70s producing the 665X movement while still using the Ultra Chron labeling on some watches.

Interesting. Thanks to both of you for the information. Can you tell the bph just by observing the second hand, or is it necessary to see the movement? The sweep of the second hand on the watch is extremely smooth and you can't tell it's even hacking at all.

The only way to determine the beat-rate would be to use a instrument that "listens" to the ticking. You can download a smartphone app to do the same thing. I have an iPhone, and the app that I use is called "Hairspring".
