Unicorn 17 Jewels Incabloc - Swiss Made

I'm wondering if anyone can give me an idea of who perhaps would have made or what era this watch came from. It is rose gold and marcasite. I have had the missing marcasite replaced, however I didn't ask the watchmaker to remove the backing to see the internals. I'm not game enough to take the back off myself as I don't know how. Thank you in advance

I would guess 1930s. The Unicorn brand was associated with Rolex, I believe. It would help to see the movement.

Thanks for your reply Dan. I hope this i ok. I had a jeweller remove the backing yesterday. It's interesting to see the internals after 28 years :)

Wow, your oppinion was efficiently infected by ebay tale tellers: Indeed, in the 30s Unicorn was actually a budget brand of Rolex. And this means, on ebay every Unicorn is a Rolex in disguise. This is how marketing worked since ever, and it proves that Trump is not the inventor of alternative facts.

Anyway, the movement of the op's watch is an AS 1017
bidfun-db Archive: Watch Movements: AS 1017
And the shape of balance cock and hairspring-stud holder (not yet in my archive) indicates an early sample from about 1955.

Now back to Unicorn: In the 50s Rolex had dropped this brand since long, but A. Schild used it for watches to circumvent the Swiss cartel laws. So finally we have an AS watch with AS movement, after today's marketing blah-blah a "manufacture watch" - placing it again near Rolex, the one and only maker of manufacture watches.

Great information. Just going by the external appearance of the watch, I was not able to make any sort of reliable guess about the age of the watch. Apparently when it comes to these small decorative ladies' watches, the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s all look similar to me.

However, seeing the movement changed everything; even without identifying it, just the presence of the anti-shock device was informative.

Really? Rolex, the one and only maker?

    What happened to Seiko?
