UNIQUE WALTHAM WITH BUILDING ON GOLD FACE!! ORIGIN??

Hello All, Just going thru a lot of pocket watch movements by Waltham and Elgin and others and came across this one... most unusual! It appears to have a building surrounded by flowers on the "gold" face. The back reads: "A.W.W.Co. Waltham, Mass. 17 Jewels" with a serial # of 21, 717,389. Does anyone know what building this is or if the face is gold at all? Basically, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. The serial number dates this watch to approx. 1918.

    Always Collecting,
    Alans

I can't say much about it except that it's a nice looking watch. The style is rather more early to mid-19th century when that sort of metal dial with engraving was quite popular. As for the exact building on the dial, I defer to the Americans in the forum!

Looks like a watch tower or some sort. But then again if you look at it a bit better theres water around the "building", could it be a lighthouse?

    Massachusetts Items

this site has some lighthouses and in some of those pictures (including a picture of a plate with a lighthouse and a house next to it, it is similar to the building on your watchface)

this one: U. S. Life-Saving Station, North Scituate, Mass. c.1900 and near it there are some similar lighthouses tha tfit the same design.

    Hope that helped :)

Alan, you aren't in England (or associated territories) by any chance are you? This style of dial was common during the latter part of the 19th century and into the 20th century on English watches, so this might have been an exported Waltham. Dials were (somewhat) unique to their watches (different watch companies would put the dial feet in different places) so it would be interesting to see if the dial feet on this look "original" or have been moved.
