    Universal Geneve Polerouter question.

A question, if I may. I've spotted a Universal Geneve Polerouter in reasonable condition. Looks to be ~1960's vintage? It runs well, but I realize it should be serviced. Inside, everything looks fine, if a little grubby. The tiny rotor spins freely. Dial has a few little dots and a light patina, but looks good. Case is stainless and has the usual nicks and scratches, but no damage. Plastic crystal, about the same.

    This is the model:

I know it's impossible to tell, but would $100 be reasonable to pay? He wanted $150, but I wrangled him down to 100.

Is servicing these microrotor movements much more difficult and expensive than regular movements?

Thanks! I really like this watch; I realize it will need servicing, and I need to know if $100 is a reasonable price as is.

    Re: Universal Geneve Polerouter question.

That's my favorite model - the chapter ring is cool. That's a very good price if it's in the condition you say. It's a mid to late 60's model I think, and if it is it will be less susceptible to winding issues like the original versions of the late 50's. Servicing isn't really more difficult per se, but parts are getting hard to come by any more.

BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!!!!
that is a VERY VERY good price.
Ok the service will cost you a bit more.
Only go to a watchmaker with expierence with microrotor Universal.
But then you have a wonderfull watch!
I sold one to my brother, A Golden Shadow microrotor.
That one never ever let him down, very reliable watch.

    regards,
    RJ van melle.

PS when bought: post some pictures and enter the "microrotor comunity" with pride... LOL

Hell yes, I want it! Was just checking with the experts, since I have exactly zero experience with this line of watches. I see you have a couple of nice examples.... Thanks!

Exclamation Re: Universal Geneve Polerouter question.

Well, poo. I did pick up the Polerouter, and overall I think I will keep it.

    However....
-I notice it has a replacement crown (and not a particularly good one).
-Also, am I correct in assuming that the case should have an external press-fit bezel ring around the crystal? This one does not, and the milled seat on the top of the case is (lightly) nicked and scratched which suggests that it hasn't had the bezel for some time.
    -the hands are not correct.

If this is the case, can these bezels be sourced? And original crowns? Hands?

Thanks! I am a little pissed at myself for not noticing these flaws when I first saw this watch. But love knows no logic, and I am prepared to bring this poor waif back to as close to original as possible.

    Cheers!

There were many different models of Polerouter. See:

http://www.polerouter.com/ (although the huge 'collection' part isn't working for me at the moment )'

    Serial numbers here BTW: http://forums.timezone.com/index.php...=2373331&rid=0

    In this thread:

you will find my experience of trying to source a case. Crowns do appear on ebay from time to time.

    Can you post us pictures?

    Re: Universal Geneve Polerouter question.

Thanks Marrick. Yes, I will take some pics and post tomorrow. I've been to polerouter.com and found my watch. No side-view pics though, but I strongly suspect mine is missing the bezel; I know the crown and hands are wrong.

    Cheers.

Pics added Re: Universal Geneve Polerouter question.

A couple of quiick and dirty pics of my newly-acquired UG Polerouter. Not the side view...is that correct or should there be a bezel? The crown and hands look wrong to me as well.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!
